Toothache (Tooth Decay, Caries)

Toothache feels like throbbing of tooth or jaw. A toothache, also known as Odontalgia or, less frequently, as Odontalgy, is an aching pain in or around a tooth. Typically, the tooth will also be very sensitive to cold and hot and sweet and sour. Other symptoms may include pain on chewing, tension in the jaw and swelling outside of the tooth and possibly fever. The pain can come from inflammation, allowing swelling and pressure inside the tooth or bone or because the tooth's nerve has been irritated due to a new filling or a blow to the tooth or periodontal disease around the teeth. Teeth in eruption, especially in very young children can mean dental pain, or later in life as an adult, when wisdom teeth erupt, and possibly not enough room in the mouth. Or there may be an untreated hole in a tooth. Maxillary sinusitis as dental pain can be felt in a number of teeth in the upper jaw at the same time. Symptoms are severe pain over the maxillary, fever and pus from the nostrils. Maxillary sinusitis may arise in connection with inflammation of the teeth eg, by a root tip and as a result of inflammation and dental root treatment with antibiotics. A slight toothache or a little sore can be managed with painkillers. Strong dental pain requiring dental care right away.
